The award, which is presented annually by the TASB/TASA Convention to one district and one firm for one project, is considered by many as the most prestigious design award in the Texas educational facility industry. The Caudill Award recognizes a building project for its excellence in Design, Value, Innovation, Educational Appropriateness and Process of Planning. This is the first time in the award's history that an additions and renovations project was winner (not new construction). This is the second time PBK has been named recipient of this award. The firm also accepted the award in 1998 for its work on Cypress Springs High School in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.
PBK was also notified that ten other client projects were the recipients of numerous design awards. Katy ISD's Morton Ranch Junior High and Clear Creek ISD's Goforth Elementary School were winners for excellence in all five categories: Value, Design, Innovation, Process of Planning and Educational Appropriateness. Northside ISD's Blattman Elementary School was a winner in the Innovation category, while Judson ISD's Hartman Elementary School won for Design. Other winners included Budewig Intermediate School in the Alief ISD (Value, Design, Educational Appropriateness), Rogers Middle School in the Pearland ISD (Value), Murphy Middle School in the Plano ISD (Value), Lake View High School in the San Angelo ISD (Value, Design, Educational Appropriateness, Innovation), Spring ISD's Claughton Middle School (Value, Design, Educational Appropriateness) and Tarrant County College District's Fire Services Training center (Design, Educational Appropriateness, Innovation).
